Hi, Jenna.

You raise an interesting question. One that is difficult to answer in a "global" way.

I think it what it comes down to ethics and integrity. Businesses who are concerned with being socially responsible ask questions like:

- How is the production (or disposal) of our products affecting the environment?
- How do the ingredients we put in our food products affect people's health? Ingredients like trans fats (hydrogenated oils) and nitrates have been linked to serious illnesses.
- How are we treating our employees? Are we paying them fairly? Are we giving them adequate vacation time? What about their work environment?

If a business looks past their bottom line and starts asking questions like these, I believe they are working on being socially responsible. What do you think?

My teacher just asked my class today,"How can businesses be socially responsible?" How would I answer that. Cause no one else knows.

I am a disabled veteran and want to start my business installing surveillance camera systems that allow the customers to view their property on their smartphones or online while away from home, even on a vacation. There is a one-time fee for installation and for the system. No monthly fees with my business. I would like ideas on getting help with funding. I can get going really good with less than $6,000.00. But I need help establishing my tax i.d. and other things required by the state of Illinois.

Joey - This is spot on!! Our company planned an activity one day a month outside the company. It was the best thing we did. It gave us perspective and generated a wealth of ideas and options.

Mint is fantastic. I've got all my friends hooked on it. It was a bit of a pain linking all of my bank accounts, but once set up, it was so interesting to track how money is being spent. Someone needed to cut back on all that eating out, ahem.
