Ordering FAQs

How long will it take to form my nonprofit corporation?

Non-expedited processing typically takes 4-6 weeks. With expedited processing, which is included in our Standard and Complete Incorporation Service packages, the average timeframe is reduced to 7-10 business days. A number of states also offer 24- or 48-hour filing service, which is a great option if you are in a hurry to have your nonprofit incorporated.

How do I keep my nonprofit corporation in compliance?

Non-profit corporations are subject to ongoing requirements in the state of incorporation, such as holding and properly documenting regular meetings of directors. We are committed to helping you stay on top of your compliance obligations. This is why we provide six months of free Registered Agent Service with every nonprofit order and access to BizComply, our online compliance tool designed to provide you with peace of mind.

BizComply alerts you to upcoming compliance events, includes a Company Dashboard providing you with an at-a-glance overview of key company data, and includes a comprehensive library of forms you can download and customize to meet state requirements.

Where should I form my nonprofit corporation?

There are many factors to consider, such as where your nonprofit intends to conduct business, the state fees, tax laws and business laws of the state, and whether you plan to qualify your nonprofit to conduct business in multiple states. Nonprofits tend to incorporate in the state where they conduct (or intends to conduct) the majority of their business.

What happens after I form my non-profit corporation?

If you plan to apply for tax-exempt status for your nonprofit corporation, you should begin the process of filing Form 1023 with the Internal Revenue Service. Some states also require you to file for state tax-exempt status. Read our Filing for Tax-Exempt Status for Nonprofits article to learn more about this process.

You can also visit our Business Startup Checklist for a list of common steps that both non-profit corporations and for-profit companies face after incorporation.
