Florida Rules for Employing Minors

Employers in Florida must conform with these state rules relating to the employment of minors.

In Florida, a person who hires or employs a minor must first obtain and keep during the entire period of employment proof of the minor's age. The proof must list the minor's date of birth and may be an age certificate, or a photocopy of a:

  • birth certificate
  • driver's license
  • passport
  • visa

A school superintendent or the superintendent's designated agent will issue age certificates for employment purposes.
