At the 2010 SmartCamp World Finals in Dublin, Ireland, IBM announced that Streetline Inc. has been named the 2010 Global Entrepreneur of the Year. The winning San Francisco-based business was among more than 600 other startup participants vying for recognition in starting a company or launching a tech entrepreneurial venture.
Streetline's smart parking technology detects the presence of automobiles via a network of low-power wireless sensors installed in parking spaces. The information is transmitted to mobile phones and computers to give audiences a live, city-wide depiction of available parking spots.
As an entire system, the networks also help universities, airports and various private institutions increase the efficiency and reduce costs of their operations.
"We are honored to be named the IBM Global Entrepreneur of the Year," said Zia Yusuf, president and CEO of Streetline. "Our smart sensors can dramatically reduce the amount of drivers' time looking for parking, and improve the efficiency of a city's traffic and parking network. Parking sensors are only the first step. Technologies that build smarter cities will change how people work and live, and we look forward to working with IBM as we expand and deliver 'smart' services to new cities."
As part of the award, Streetline will receive mentoring and support from industry experts, including recognition from venture capitalists. The recognition will also afford the company vital business connections within the massive IBM network of technology professionals and investors.
