In an effort to encourage small business growth and development in California, several state organizations recently hosted the final event in a year-long series aimed at helping small business owners and entrepreneurs.
Hundreds of small business owners, consultants and entrepreneurs forming a company attended the state-sponsored functions, with more promised for next year.
"California's entrepreneurial spirit can fuel our economic recovery today and for years to come," said Joel Ayala, director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. "By working with statewide partners, we hope to be able to provide the tools, resources and information that small businesses need to position themselves to grow and lead various sectors of our economy."
California is the largest state economy in the U.S. and also one of the largest in the world, with a GDP of more than $1.8 billion. Much of the state's economic vitality stems from its 3.2 million small businesses - a sector that also contributes heavily to overall employment figures.
With the state's unemployment rate currently the third highest in the nation at 12.4 percent, such small business initiatives are seen as vital in promoting sector growth and creating jobs.
