Finding balance is an ongoing process. And once we find it, it's difficult to hold on to. These practical tips are meant to help keep you as close to balance as possible. When it comes down to it, our personal and professional lives are so intertwined that we cannot balance one without balancing the other.
Make appointments with yourself to exercise. Treat these appointments with the same respect you would if it were a meeting with a client or customer. Exercise not only improves your health, it also gives you energy and improves mental clarity. Can you think of a better way to make good decisions throughout your work day?
Take a break when you need one. Have you ever found yourself working really hard, but getting nowhere? When we hit the proverbial wall, pushing forward even harder is seldom the path to great accomplishment. A break, whether it’s five minutes or an entire day, can refresh your mind and your disposition.
Have a social life/family life. Taking time for actual human interaction that doesn’t have to do with your business is a critical element to a happy life (not to mention mental wellness). It’s tempting to put work in front of family time or friend time — especially when it’s our own business. But we are not computers! We need these interactions, and our family and friends need us!
Find your spiritual side. What do you do to connect with your spiritual side? If you have something that works for you, are you doing it enough? If you don’t, there are plenty of options — from meditation, to workshops, to attending church, to reading an inspirational book ...
Goal setting. In a previous series, I discussed how to discover, define and set your goals — even in the face of obstacles. Personal and professional goals not only keep you on track, they also give you focus so you don’t waste your time on extraneous tasks.
This author knows first hand how difficult these techniques can sometimes be to accomplish. But they are possible. If you can make them a habit, your life and your business will thrive.
May your business always experience abundance, growth and prosperity …
