Cyber attacks can steal money that could disable a small business. A recent study by KnowBe4, an internet security awareness training firm, found 75 percent of small to medium-sized businesses were victims of cyber attacks in the previous year. “Many small and medium enterprises think they’re adequately protected against security threats because they have ant-virus software,” said Stu Sjouwerman, founder and CEO of KnowBe4. “But the reality is that cyber criminals can bypass that software by tricking an employee into clicking a link on a phishing email.” KnowBe4 offers small and medium-sized businesses free phishing security to find out which employees are vulnerable to phishing. KnowBe4 also offers cyber-crime education resources on its website. Its not just small businesses that can be attacked by cyber criminals, according to SMEWeb.com. Major companies have fallen victim to attacks as well. According to SMEWeb.com, an up-to-date virus scanner and a personal firewall technology are a few basic ways to keep hackers out. Another method to defend a company from hackers is to encrypt data, which requires a password or code to unlock the translated information.
