A summary of Maine laws relating to weapons and conduct that impact workplace violence.
Effective September 28, 2011, an employer in Maine may not prohibit an employee who has a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm from keeping a firearm in the employee's vehicle as long as the vehicle is locked, and the firearm is not visible, unless otherwise prohibited by law.
It is unlawful to display in a threatening manner or wear concealed under clothes or about the person any firearm or other dangerous or deadly weapon without a permit.
Licensed hunters and trappers with a state-issued license to hunt or trap are exempt from the prohibition on carrying firearms without a permit. However, the exemption does not authorize the carrying of a concealed or loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.
