Restrictions on Firing Employees in Colorado

Employers in Colorado are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.

Colorado laws make it unlawful for an employer to:

  • fire an employee for serving on jury duty
  • fail to give voters time off to vote
  • fire a volunteer fireperson who responds to an emergency summons
  • fire to discourage or encourage unionism
  • deny equal employment opportunity
  • retaliate against an employee who files a wage/hour law complaint or whose wages are withheld for child support or other garnishment
