Employers in Florida are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.

Florida laws make it unlawful for an employer to:

  • threaten or dismiss an employee who serves on jury duty
  • fail to provide employees with safe working conditions
  • deny equal employment opportunity
  • fire an employee for filing a workers' compensation claim
  • violate protections for veterans or reservists
  • retaliate against an employee for reporting a safety violation
  • fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support or other garnishment
