Employers in Illinois are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.

Illinois laws make it unlawful for an employer to:

  • fail to allow employees time off for jury service
  • fail to allow employees time off to vote
  • deny equal employment opportunity
  • violate protections for veterans or reservists
  • retaliate against an employee for filing a wage claim or an unfair employment practice
  • fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support or other garnishment
