Employers in North Dakota are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.

North Dakota laws make it unlawful for an employer to:

  • fire an employee who serves on jury duty
  • deny equal employment opportunity
  • violate protections for veterans or reservists
  • retaliate against an employee for filing a wage complaint or for reporting or refusing to participate in a violation of law or regulation
  • fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support or other garnishment
