Employers in Utah are subject to these state rules that restrict firing employees under certain circumstances.

Utah laws make it unlawful for an employer to:

  • discriminate against employee for testimony given in minimum wage or child labor law proceedings
  • not permit time off to vote
  • fire for union activity
  • deny equal employment opportunity
  • retaliate against an employee for filing a safety complaint
  • fire an employee for having wages withheld for child support or for a single garnishment other than child support
