Time Off for Voting Rules in Maryland

Maryland employers must provide employees with time off to vote in accordance with these state rules.

At every election held in Maryland, every employer must allow employees who are registered voters time off to vote if the employee does not otherwise have two hours of continuous off-duty time during the time the polls are open to vote.

The law does not apply to employees voting by absentee ballot.

Paid time off rules: Time off to vote is with pay; however, employees must provide the employer with proof that they have voted or that they attempted to vote. A form indicating that an individual has voted may be obtained from the election judges upon request.

Amount of time off allowed: An employee is entitled to up to two hours off to vote.
