Time Off for Voting Rules in Minnesota

Minnesota employers must provide employees with time off to vote in accordance with these state rules.

Minnesota employees who are eligible to vote in an election have the right to be absent from work for the time necessary to appear at the employee's polling place, cast a ballot, and return to work on the day of that election, without penalty or deduction from salary or wages because of the absence.

Paid time off rules: Time off to vote is time off without deduction from wages.

Employer Penalty for Violation: Fine up to $1,000 and/or jail up to 90 days.
