Employers in Connecticut must conform with these state rules regarding the treatment of tips received by employees.
Effective January 1, 2014, the tip credit in Connecticut is 34 and six-tenths percent of the hourly state minimum wage for those employees who receive tips, other than bartenders, employed in the hotel and restaurant industry. The tip credit is 15 and six-tenths percent of the minimum wage per hour for bartenders who regularly receive gratuities, effective January 1, 2014.
Employers cannot count tips towards the hourly minimum wage in beauty shops.
In Connecticut, a gratuity is a voluntary monetary contribution received by the employee from a guest, patron or customer for service rendered.
