UX/UI Pioneer and Founder of Hard Candy Shell Kevin Kearney Featured in Wolters Kluwer’s BizFilings’ Startup Spotlight Series

Wolters Kluwer’s BizFilings today announced the next winning entrepreneur in the company’s Startup Spotlight series. The program, which recognizes remarkable entrepreneurs and their achievements, was launched in honor of the 20th anniversary of BizFilings, a leading online incorporation services provider for small businesses.

Kevin Kearney, CEO and founder of Hard Candy Shell, LLC, is the second entrepreneur featured in the series. Hard Candy Shell is a digital creative agency based in New York that is known for its unique approach to user experience/user interface (UX/UI). BizFilings formed the company’s LLC in 2007 and acts as its registered agent.

Today, Hard Candy Shell works with well-known brands, including NBCUniversal, Disney, Samsung and Bloomberg, as well as a number of high-profile startups, including Rent the Runway and Foursquare.

"Hard Candy Shell’s story is an example of the booming ‘creative economy’ that is fast becoming a bedrock of new business growth in this country," said Jennifer Friedman, Vice President of BizFilings. It is estimated that digital design and creative companies contribute about $698 billion to the American economy.

"What Kevin did right is set up his business for growth from the very beginning," added Jennifer. "His ingenuity and passion are huge drivers of his business, but he also recognized early on that he needed to incorporate to get his first client. Plus, he saw the value of outsourcing his compliance work and using a professional registered agent."

"We are excited to receive this recognition from a company that has stood beside us from the very beginning," said Kevin. "Incorporating was our first major milestone, followed by hiring our first employee and then moving into our official office space. As a business owner, these are the moments that you never forget."

When asked for advice he would give aspiring entrepreneurs, Kevin commented, "Creative people start their own agencies for many reasons; perhaps because they have ideas that are not being nurtured, they want to make their own decisions, or they simply want to blaze trails." He continued, "My advice to new agency founders is this: Stay true to the reasons why you started your agency — stay focused on the work and the unique value you bring to your clients — and success will follow."

Hard Candy Shell will be featured on the BizFilings website and social media channels.
